CHANDIGARH: The Central government has approved financial assistance of Rs 98.50 crore to Haryana to shift 60,000 hectares of land from paddy to alternative crops like maize and guar under the crop diversification programme. Of this, a major chunk of land is proposed to be brought under poplar tree plantation to break the wheat-rice cropping pattern.
