Where we are now Australia's economic integration with Asia has been underway for some time. In formal terms we can date this engagement back to the commercial treaty with Japan in 1957. The pattern of our existing trade already reflects Australia's strong engagement with Asia. It includes seven of Australia's top 10 export markets.
